Wood Sculptures


In this section of the Gallery, you will find my latest 3D wood sculptures. You will see that I carve a wide variety of subjects. Animals and human figures are my favorite. I especially line to carve abstract figures.

"Emerging Nude Number 2"
This abstract figure sculpture was completed in October, 2003. It is carved from a Cypres Knee and is sitting on an Oak base. The abstract figure has a Tung oil and Eurethane finish. This figure study is designed to appear as if she is emerging out of the large mass at the bottom of the sculpture. This is the second in a series of abstract figures. It measures 7" wide x 7" deep x 18" tall.

"Emerging Nude Number 3"
This is the third abstract figure in the "Emerging Nude" sculpture series. It was completed in April, 2004. It is carved from a Cypres Knee and is sitting on a Walnut base. The abstract figure has a Tung oil and Eurethane finish. This figure study is designed to appear as if she is pulling away from the large mass at her side. It measures 7" wide x 7" deep x 22" tall.

Untitled
This piece has been a year in the works. It is a commissioned piece that was carved in the remaining stump of a White Oak tree. The owner had the tree cut down due to disease. There was an 8 foot setion left. I added the top of the ears to bring the total height of the piece to over 10 feet tall. I started carving on this September 30, 2003 and it was completed on October 4, 2004.

"Turning Angel"
This large wood sculpture was completed September 21, 2002. It is a large Angel Fish with the head turning back to almost meet the tail. I really enjoy carving things in nature and abstracting them to produce a different feel. This piece is carved out of Hickory and is permanently mounted on the base. It measures 14" wide x 14" deep x 75" tall (including the base).

"Wading Nude"
This realistic figure sculpture was completed September 26, 2003. It is carved from Bass, Poplar, Mahogany and Walnut woods. The figure has a deep walnut stain, while the Mahagony towell and the Walnut water are finished in a clear Lacquer. This figure study is designed to appear as if she is wading in a pond. It measures 12" wide x 12" deep x 18" tall. This piece took first place in the 2003 Glasgow Business and Professional Womens Art and Craft Fair.

"Lizard, Lizard, Lizard"
This lizard was completed September 26, 2004. It is carved from Pine, sitting on a painted base. It measures 12" wide x 10" deep x 6" tall.

"The Chase"
This piece has 2 fish chasing eachother around a stump of a tree. It was completed in August, 2004. The fish are carved from Basswood. They are mounted to a Spalted Maple Stump. The piece sitting on a Walnut base. The fish and stump have a Lacquer finish. The Walnut base has a Tung oil and Eurethane finish. It measures 10" wide x 7" deep x 15" tall.

"Peruvian"
This realistic wood carving of a "Peruvian" horse head is done in Walnut with a Hickory base. It measures 12" wide x 6" deep x 20" tall and was completed in 2002.

"Angel Fish"
This wood sculpture was one of the first pieces I completed after graduation. It has received 2 blue ribbon awards and one best of show award. The fish is carved from Basswood and is sitting on Cedar seaweed. The piece measures 15" wide x 10" deep x 18" tall.

"Curve #1 - The Straight and Narrow Path"
This wood sculpture was completed April 7, 2002. This is the first in a series that will explore the basic curved shape. Although this piece is made from plywood on a pine base, it is painted to look like stone. This piece measures 14" wide x 6" deep x 40" tall.

"Emerging Nude"
This wood sculpture is an abstract figure carved out of Pine on a Walnut base. It measures 14 inches tall and was completed in 1999.

"Unmasked"
This figure carving was completed May 31, 2002. The hand holding the wood mask represents removing the face that is put on for the public to view. The sculpture is a combination of Cherry and Pine woods. It measures 21" x 17" x 7".

"Curve # 2 - Tall Ships"
This agxtract wood sculpture was completed September 15, 2002. This piece continues the series that explores the basic curved shape. It is carved in Spalted Maple. The top section is less than 1/8" thick which makes it very delicate. It measures 9" wide x 5" deep x 44" tall.
